Traditionally, the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated by families shortly after the birth of their baby. First Communion is traditionally celebrated when their children are in the second grade.
But those are not 'hard and fast' rules. For a variety of reasons, some families are prevented from -- or choose not to participate in -- celebrating those Sacraments until their children are older.
To welcome those families -- and children -- St. Jude offers "S.P.O.K.(E.)," short for "Sacramental Preparation of Older Kids - Evangelization" ("Evangelization" is included in the title because the entry of their children into the Sacramental Life of the Church is often a "welcome back" to families who may have left for a time.)
Children older than age 7 who have not been baptized or older than Grade 2 who have not celebrated their First Communion are invited to participate in "S.P.O.K.(E.)" Parents attend the sessions with their children.
Sessions are scheduled as needed.
Second graders preparing with their classes for First Reconciliation and Communion MUST be baptized before receiving any other Sacrament. Please contact Ann Chadowski, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
