Girl Scout Liz Wenner Gold Award Project
Parishioner Liz Wenner, a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 50409, is working on her Gold Award Project. The Girl Scout Gold Award Project is equivalent to the Boy Scouts Eagle Scout . Her project , Respecting the Deceased, involves showing respect toward the deceased by cleaning headstones that have been neglected in local cemeteries. In prior visits to cemeteries, Liz realized that not all the headstones are kept clean or that families no longer visit them. On Saturday, May 19, 2018, Liz and approximately 33 helpers descended on Ridgelawn Cemetery in Elyria for her second day of service. Her team consisted of St. Jude School students, along with various Girl Scouts from Troops 50174, 50323, 50327, 50363, 50591, 50933 and 70596. They were joined by members from Cub Scout Pack 110 and Boy Scout Troop 481. The team members cleaned up the majority of the headstones in the second section despite having to dodge serious rain showers! She will be working with the Elyria Girl Scout Service Unit 512 Director, Christle Quinn to make this an annual event organized and planned by the Service Unit.
