St. Jude Jaguars – CYO Tackle Football

Faith and Football –  Stronger Together

St. Jude Tackle Football: For several decades the St. Jude football program has provided an environment where we are able to teach the fundamentals of football, focus on the meaning of teamwork, foster good sportsmanship, and promote physical fitness. Our mission is to provide a program that will not only build strong character within competition, but also extend that strength to the interaction with their faith and community.

If your child is interested in playing football with us and you have questions, please contact:

2017 Jaguar Football Information:

The 2017 CYO Tackle Football season quickly approaching. We are excited to get back on the field and look forward to seeing you and your player later this summer.

Registration for tackle football (and all fall sports) is now open!

Log on to the St. Jude CYO SportsPilot – Online Registration  website to get signed up as soon as possible. Football registration must be completed by July 1st. This will allow us enough time to determine team rosters and communicate schedules to registered families.

CYO Tackle Football is available to CYO eligible players entering grades 4th* – 8th in the 2017/2018 school year. Players must meet minimum weight requirements, as defined by CYO. Please note, we attempt to field a team at each grade level, but that is not always possible. Most years, we have had to fill out teams with players from mixed grades. When that happens, the team will play a grade level schedule that corresponds to the oldest grade level player on that team, per CYO rules. Example: a team that includes both 7th and 8th grade players will play an 8th grade schedule of opponents. At most players will be asked to play one grade level above their own.

*St. Jude does allow 3rd graders who are interest in playing to sign up, but it is important to know that they would play a 4th grade schedule and they must meet CYO minimum weight requirements.

Important Dates:

July 1, 2017                         Registration for St. Jude CYO Tackle Football should be completed by this date.

Miscellaneous Information:

We hope your player enjoys the summer and the various sports that they play at this time of year. It is never too early to start thinking about football and there are many camps scheduled throughout the summer, below are a few that you may be interesting to you and your player:

Elyria Catholic 2017 Summer Camp

St. Edward 2017 Summer Camp

St. Ignatius 2017 Summer Camp

CYO: In the CYO, the athletic competition gives each participant an opportunity to grow in character, ability and community while honoring oneself, as well as one’s family, teammates, officials and church. The CYO in Northeast Ohio is part of Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland. As such, the program promotes the values of Dignity of Person, Hope, Service and Justice to all those whom we come in contact with each day.

USA Football: St. Jude became a member of USA Football and adopted their Heads Up program in 2014. USA Football is the sport’s national governing body. It leads the game’s development, inspires participation, and creates a better and safer* experience for youth football. Combined with the traditional Cleveland CYO coaching requirements, St. Jude requires that all coaches have concussion awareness training. As part of the Heads Up Program, we also have a designated Player Safety Coach that is certified through USA Football. In addition, every team fielded at St. Jude will have multiple coaches who have completed Tackle Certification courses through USA Football. We encourage all parents to review the USA Football and Heads Up Football information on their website.
