The Sacrament of Eucharist (the second of the Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church) is celebrated for the first time by second graders who attend St. Jude School or P.S.R. on the Sunday following Mother’s Day at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses.
The students, who have been prepared at home by their families, and in the classroom by their teachers and catechists, celebrate a number of other occasions en route to receiving their First Communion, including a special “Jesus Day” Retreat with their classmates and an Enrollment Ceremony through which the entire parish becomes vicariously involved in this milestone in the life of the children.
To assist parents in preparing their children to celebrate First Eucharist, a special session is held in early Spring, at which the history, significance and gifts of the Sacrament are shared. At that time, additional information is provided about specifics of the celebration at St. Jude.
Any child(ren) baptized at a church other than St. Jude most provide a baptismal certificate at the January meeting for their child(ren) to receive this Sacrament.
